The Singapore Food Festival 2011 - The Singapore Food Festival is a celebration of Singapores multi-racial food and cultures. This year, the Peranakan food and culture will take the spotlight over a period of 10 days over 2 weekends, amongst the local ethnic food which will be part of the content as well. Visitors are invited to immerse themselves in our food loving culture, learn about the heritage of our local food through the different themed events in different locations around Singapore and most importantly, treat their taste buds to the unique blend of flavours that is Singapore food. Peranakan Parade, Clarke Quay, 17 July, Time: From 6pm onwards, Price: Free For the very first time, there will be a Peranakan Parade where more than two hundred Peranakans, elaborately dressed in traditional gear, will ronggeng and joget down the Singapore River. The Peranakan Parade will start at the Singapore River Promenade outside The Central. Join in the fun and kick off the celebrations with a bang! Clarke Quay Food Fest, Read Bridge, 17-25 July, Time: 4pm - 11pm, Price: From $2 onwards Located at the Read Bridge, serving food from up to 30 food stalls, this event is a definite must go. Whet your appetites with a lip-smacking experience as you will get to savour food ranging from popular local delicacies to exquisite Peranakan snacks. Singapore River Market, River Promenade, 17-19 July, 24-26 July, Time: 4pm - 11pm | Price: Free Take a breath of fresh air as you stroll along the Singapore River and browse through
Event-goers were also able to take in the Great Singapore Sale, which takes place at the same time, as well as a series of cooking classes offered by some of the city’s illustrious chefs. Also new in 2010, a digital cooking game app was offered to festival-goers. This allowed players to choose and whip up their own Chinese dialect dishes, getting educated on ingredients along the way.
